Interview for HBM221N Marketing Research Review

In order to complete the assignment from HBM221N Marketing Research, we conducted 3 interview which 1 of the interview is with Swinburne student and others have to be with people who is outside Swinburne. The topic of this interview is about discount.

For the first interview, I interview my team mate (Lin) which is from China. It is a awful interview which only conducted for around 2 minutes. We didn't have a deep interview due to the language we are using is not our mother language. However, this basically is a failed interview but still not going to do it again, take it as experienced. 

The second interview for me is with my cousin (Zing) who visits me from Singapore. This time the situation is basically better than the first time, but I guess I didnt do well on this too. I am just too nervous. We are conducting the interview inside car while we are on our way to have breakfast.

And the third interview was conducted with my friend (Tan) who is currently studying in Australia. He came back Kuching for a short vacation. So far, this is the best interview for me even it start to be a little nervous at start of the interview.


From the interview, people mostly thinks that "discount" is to reduce the price of the goods. However, there is positive and also negative comment about discount. Some thinks that discount is good because we can buy the goods in lower price and encourage spending; the bad side about discount is that we do not have any idea why the goods will be discount? Is the goods having any problem? Expired soon? And sometimes we don't need the things but the psychology reason lead us to buy it but in the end we found out it actually useless. One of my interviewee did mention about, if the goods are able to discount at a big margin, means it may be not worth for the price it original been tagged on. On the other hand, one of my interviewee thinks that discount is a win-win situation which able to benefits both side of the buyer and seller. Buyer able to out their stock in a faster way and buyer able to purchase the goods at the lower price which they able and willing to pay for. Most of my interviewee first get to know about discount from their parents, and nowadays they receive the discount information via electronic media such as e-mail, Facebook, Smartphone application, but traditional ways still works such as newspaper and get to know about discount from friends. 

After conducting the interview, I found out that discount might be works for most of the people, especially for me but not my interviewees.
